Westonbirt House & Gardens and Tetbury

Tuesday 11th August

We make our way to Tetbury first of all today with free time to explore for lunch. Being situated close to the Kings home at Highgrove, you could well be dining in his local!

You may have visited Westonbirt Arboretum previously, but maybe like me, you had not heard of Westonbirt House and Gardens.

Westonbirt House and Gardens are the creation of successive members of the Holford family, most notably of that titan of the 19th-century, Robert Stayner Holford.

Robert invested the family wealth into the Westonbirt estate and his collection of Fine Art and books. He founded and stocked the Westonbirt Arboretum and his private garden with exotic species of trees.

With the help of his architect Lewis Vulliamy, and using new Victorian technologies, Holford built Westonbirt House to a standard of quality that has rarely been equalled.

Described by Country Life Magazine as “the finest example of Victorian architecture, landscape and gardens in the Cotswolds”.

Here we will enjoy an afternoon guided tour with a coffee/tea and scone with jam before we head home.
