The Shoemakers Museum in Street, Somerset

Wednesday 20th May

Today we head down south to Street in Somerset to the historic Clarks Village and the Shoemakers Museum.

The Shoemakers Museum is a brand new visitor experience which opened to the public in September 2025. An attraction that celebrates 200 years of shoemaking history through the eyes of the shoemakers, telling the stories behind Clarks shoes in the place where it all began in Street, Somerset.

Upon arrival, we will have time to explore the shops and have lunch before we join the Shoemakers Museum Gallery Tour.

We will enjoy a tour of the new galleries and step further into the lives of the Shoemakers.  We will discover the highlights of the collection with members of the collections team, meet the shoemakers and explore the creation of Street as a factory village from its Quaker roots to global influence.

Find out about the fascinating evolution of shoemaking from handmaking to life on the factory line. Take a journey through retail and advertising history from 1880s to the current day. An opportunity to meet with the experts who manage our collections and ask questions.
