Ironbridge & Midlands Air Ambulance Airbase HQ, Shropshire
Friday 23rd October
This morning we head to Ironbridge, a picturesque riverside town, renowned as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
Nestled in the dramatic Severn Gorge, it takes its name from the world's first-ever cast-iron bridge, built in 1779, and is now at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site with free time for lunch
We then head for a fascinating behind-the-scenes visit to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity airbase HQ.
Although this is a working clinical airbase rather than a traditional visitor attraction, we have the special opportunity to enjoy a presentation about the lifesaving work of the charity, meet members of the team and learn more about the vital emergency services they provide across the Midlands region. From the viewing area, we will be able to see the helicopters up close (subject to operational requirements), giving us a unique insight into the day-to-day running of the air ambulance service. Refreshments will also be included during our visit, and there will be the opportunity to purchase a selection of charity merchandise.
As a charity, Midlands Air Ambulance relies entirely on public support, with its lifesaving operations costing around £17 million each year to run. Proceeds from our visit will go directly towards supporting their critical care missions.
