Here at Rural Concierge, we work in partnership with the newly branded Everywhen (which has now replaced their previous name Towergate insurance), to provide Coach Travel Insurance for your holiday or short break.

What is coach travel insurance and what does it cover?

A travel Insurance policy should be an important part of your holiday plans.
What will it provide?

Cancellation

Cover if you need to cancel or cut short your trip as a result of medical reasons, redundancy,

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advice, insolvency of accommodation provider.

Medical and Repatriation Expenses

Cover for expenses you incur during a trip due to you suffering unforeseen injury due to an

accident, illness, disease and/or compulsory quarantine.

Baggage

Cover in the event of something happening to your suitcases (or containers of a similar nature),

their contents or your personal money. There is no cover for loss, theft of or damage to valuables, cash, important documents or personal money left unattended or from luggage checked in with an airline.

Exclusions to insurance cover also include:

New Year of 2026, Liz reflects on her 13th year in business with Rural Concierge…. When did it all begin?

Although Rural Concierge was established in 2013, my roots in travel and tourism go back much further.

My passion for travel began in the early 1990s during a school work-experience placement at Lady Hawkins School in Kington. I spent one week at a travel agency in the summer and another at a veterinary practice in the depths of winter — which very quickly confirmed where my future lay.

I went on to complete two GNVQ qualifications in Leisure and Tourism at Herefordshire College of Technology , before moving to New College Durham to gain an HND (Higher National Diploma) in Business with Travel Management.

My first role in the travel industry was at Thomas Cook headquarters in Peterborough, booking flights all over the world for customers — initially via teletext, and later through what was then considered new technology: the internet.

Missing the countryside of Herefordshire, I returned home and worked in a variety of travel agencies, arranging holidays, honeymoons and worldwide itineraries. Throughout this time, my focus was always on attention to detail and creating the very best experience for each individual customer.

After a short break from the travel industry, I was proud to become Tourism Officer for Visit Herefordshire within Herefordshire Council . In this role, I promoted my home county and helped organise events such as the Herefordshire Walking Festival, the Herefordshire Food Festival and the Herefordshire Flavours Food Awards. Although I had arranged itineraries all over the world, I particularly enjoyed creating themed itineraries around Herefordshire and hosting journalists and press visits to showcase the very best of the county.

Following later staffing cuts, I was made redundant — a difficult moment at the time, but one that ultimately led to the creation of Rural Concierge.

Just before being made redundant, Rosemary, a volunteer at Hereford Tourist Information mentioned Heritage Country House Tours to me and explained that the organiser was looking for someone to take over. Heritage Country House Tours (H.C.H.T.) had been established in 1987 by Bill Asbury and his wife Jackie, and was later taken over in 2001 by Hazel Smith, who ran it successfully until 2013.

Starting my own business was something I had been talking about for a long time, but it was still daunting. In the back of my mind, I often wondered how I could run a successful business doing something I was so passionate about.

Taking over from Hazel in 2013 brought its own pressures, but with the support of a loyal and well-established customer base — and a few lessons learned along the way — the journey soon began. From realising that a coach does not travel quite as quickly as a car, to understanding the importance of careful route planning, experience and confidence grew with every trip.

With encouragement, good humour and trust from those who travelled with me, Heritage Country House Tours later merged into Rural Concierge, allowing me to continue offering the same carefully planned, culturally rich experiences — but with a broader, more personal approach.
I am often told that travelling with Rural Concierge feels less like a tour and more like a day out with family and friends , and this is the essence of how I will always want Rural Concierge to be.

What a day & what a turn out at Hereford Town Hall today to celebrate the ..........

"10th ANNIVERSARY of Rural Concierge ".

A scrumptious afternoon tea was served on arrival. The afternoon then continued with a welcome talk from Liz, including a potted summary of Rural Concierge's activities past, present & future.

Next was a brief presentation by Charity Age UK, outlining their services available in Herefordshire.

Last, but certainly not least we enjoyed an interesting (& amusing) talk on the 'Story of The Town Hall & Hereford City' by the inimitable John Marshall/Mayor's Officer/Town Marshall.

A special occasion enjoyed by all - here's to the next ten years .

What is coach travel insurance and what does it cover?

A travel Insurance policy should be an important part of your holiday plans.
You should consider the consequences of not taking out a travel insurance policy, such as:

1. The risk of you having to cancel or cut short your holiday if you fall ill or suffer an injury is the same irrespective of where your holiday is.

2. Likewise, the risk of you falling ill or suffering an injury during your holiday is the same irrespective of where your holiday is, the only difference being the potential cost of expenses incurred.

This isn’t intended to put you off travelling, quite the opposite.

Taking out a travel policy should give you the reassurance that should something unexpected happen before or during your holiday, you have access to speedy and professional assistance, as well as the opportunity to claim compensation for your loss.

Funding raising TREK26 in the Cotswolds for the Alzheimer's society

This summer, I have tasked myself with a slight challenge......

On 15th July, I will be taking part in the Cotswolds TREK26 for the Alzheimer's Society.

There will be a small group of us Liz, Jo, Hannah & Rai - collectively called the Golden Girls of the Golden Valley.

We will be walking the 26 miles along the Cotswolds Way and ending the challenge walking past Sudeley Castle and through Winchcombe.

Well, as the news seems to be getting a little more positive, we are QUIETLY confident and have been busy planning lots of great day trips and holidays for this year (and 2023!)

Getting out and about made easy!

Our first day out after lockdown #1

Wednesday 5th August 2020 was our first coach trip out

of Herefordshire to Wells in Somerset.

We all had our temperatures checked before boarding and wore face masks or shields for the journey.

On arrival into Wells, Ross Young from the ‘Meet and Greet’ team welcomed us at the Coach Park, gave us a brief history of the city, explained what attractions were open and obviously how to get there. Being a Wednesday, we were also able to take advantage of the ‘Eat out to Help out’ scheme.

It was market day in Wells and although it was fairly busy, the pavements were marked as a one way system.

Most of my time was spent in the Bishops Palace having alfresco lunch and visiting the beautiful historic gardens.

There were 23 of us on the Coach. We were all evenly spaced for social distancing and apart from the heavy downpour of rain an hour before we were due to leave, the day was a huge success!

Everyone said they felt safe and with all the extra new ways of travelling, it did not put anyone off. Like me, I think everyone on the trip was just grateful that we are able to get out and about again.

2020 - Reopening of the Rural Concierge Shop

UPDATE

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been trying to decide when to re open our shop.

Although all of the non essential shops are able to open, starting from tomorrow we have made the decision that are going to stay closed until at least Monday 29th June 2020.

This is due to the hospitality trade not being able to open until next month and the lack of guidance on coach travel.

We act as an agent for many coach operators and the majority of these businesses are still not open as yet.

We are moving in the right direction, but we still need to be sure and confident when it comes to coach and group travel visiting hotels, attractions, events, pubs and restaurants.

All of our own days out and holidays have been rearranged or cancelled up until 31st July 2020.

Since lock down, we have continued to work at home dealing with all the administration involved with cancelling and re arranging coach holidays and the last month we have been working within our closed shop.

Rural Business Awards

Herefordshire business Rural Concierge has won the Best Rural Tourism Business at the 2018 Midlands Rural Business Awards sponsored by Amazon.

2016 saw Rural Concierge as the overall winner of the Best Rural Tourism Business Award, as presented by the Rural Business Awards in partnership with CLA.

Over the past couple of years the business has grown from strength to strength and with Hereford City Council granting a three year Service Level agreement to manage Hereford Tourist Information, visitors to Hereford city are now able to find out what there is to enjoy in the county within Hereford Butter Market.

Established in 2013, Rural Concierge organises tours, trips and holidays, they are also the booking agents for local coach companies such as Yeomans and Whittles Holidays.

Liz Hill founder and Director of Rural Concierge said “I am absolutely over the moon to win this category for the region. It is real honour to receive national recognition. I always want to make the holiday experience as easy as possible for visitors travelling to rural areas and at Rural Concierge we cater not only for the local and national visitor, but we have a growing range of international clients too. We are so proud to be recognised for doing what we love”.

Liz recognised the need for a tourism based offering that supported local business and encouraged more visitors into the county, whilst also catering for local people wanting to explore and enjoy different experiences through day trips and holidays.

The Midlands Rural Business Awards event was held on Thursday 11th October at Eastwood Hall in Nottingham and the national finals will be held at Chateau Impney in Droitwich on 28th February 2019.
