Tredegar & Bedwellty House & Park

Wednesday 22nd May

Today, we head to Tredegar, the birthplace of Aneurin Bevan who was responsible for the introduction of the British National Health Service (NHS).

We will have free time in Tredegar to explore (see optional attractions listed below), before heading to Bedwellty, to enjoy a 2-course lunch and tour of the house and gardens before heading home.

Medical Heritage Centre - Number 10, The Circle in Tredegar was once home to the Tredegar Medical Aid Society, used as the blueprint for the creation of the National Health Service in 1948 by Aneurin Bevan. This small but important building helped pioneer health care as we know it today. FREE ENTRY

The Clocktower - Built in 1858, the iron clock tower is a symbolic reminder that the town's existence and growth was due to the production of iron.  The site chosen was then called Market Square, now 'The Circle', and the clock has become a landmark of which local residents are justly proud.

Our afternoon and lunch will be spent at Bedwellty House & Park, a listed Regency villa surrounded by a historic garden established in the 19th century for the famous Homfray Ironmaster dynasty.
