Winchcombe & Stanway House, Gloucestershire

Friday 28th June

Winchcombe has been a mecca for tourists since the Middle Ages visiting the tomb of St Kenelm. Now it boasts beautiful Cotswold streets full to bursting with independent shops, galleries and eateries.

We will arrive mid morning with time to explore, before heading to Stanway House after lunch.

Stanway is an outstandingly beautiful example of a Jacobean manor house famous for its 300 foot single-jet fountain, the highest in Britain and the highest gravity fountain in the world.

The house, its fascinating furniture, the jewel-like Gatehouse, the church and  14th-century Tithe Barn, the 18th-century water garden, the specimen trees and avenues, the surrounding villages, farms, parkland and woodland all subtly combine to create an enclave of very English and almost magical harmony.

We will be split into 2 groups for a tour, as “the house is very uneven with many steps.”
